toddler brain

At the grocery store last week: George has to greet everyone we see at every store and always anticipates a lovely chat with the checkout clerk. It's most embarassing when there is someone going through the aisles in the opposite direction so you keep meeting them every time and he insists on saying hello until the other person says hello back... every time...

So getting back to the grocery store, there was a reeeeeally tall young man at the checkout. George looked him up and down and was thinking and thinking. Then he finally spoke up and said "mama boy!!" By which all my loyal readers know he meant just a very big person because all big things are mamas and all little things are babies. I doubt this guy is a regular reader of the blog, though, because he looked at me incredulously and asked "did he just call me a mama's boy??" It didn't help that George spoke up just then to ask "where's your baby boy?" because of course there must always be a baby thing to go with the mama thing. It was at that moment I realized I had no real hope of explaining all this and just sort of mumbled something and wheeled the cart away. With George waving and saying "bye bye mama boy!"

And tonight, we had corn for dinner. I cut his off the cob as usual but he saw me eating it on the cob and wanted to have a go. I humored him but it turns out he was quite adept at it and started nibbling all over the ear and cleaned it off in a hurry. Why the hurry? He thought it was some sort of present or surprise and kept saying "what's insiiiiide? what's insiiiiiide?"
